Investing in Our Team’s Growth
At KingJims Shipping, we understand the pivotal role that training and development play in the continuous growth and success of our team. Our commitment to training extends across various domains, ensuring that our shore personnel are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles.
Internal Training:
Our annual internal training plan is a collaborative effort, with each department proposing specific training initiatives. Once approved, these plans are set into motion. The training subjects cover a wide spectrum, including work instructions, professional knowledge, quality improvement, AEO certification, information security, occupational safety and health, corporate social responsibility, prevention of insider trading, and more. In 2022, our team collectively invested 918.7 hours in various training courses.
Professional Training:
In adherence to laws and regulations, colleagues from critical departments such as Auditing, Occupational Safety & Health, Insurance & Claims, Finance, Seafarer Training Center, Computer Division, and Kaohsiung Terminal Division participate in training programs organized by external institutions. To heighten our risk management awareness, executives and managers from different departments also partake in Danger Prevention Seminars.
Management-Level Learning Programs:
Leadership and management competencies are pivotal to our company’s success. Our newly-promoted managers engage in specialized administrative training programs. Additionally, managers from diverse departments actively participate in workshops focused on Cross-Generational Communication, Employee Support, Performance Management, and Strategy. These workshops are conducted in partnership with management consulting experts.
E-Learning Platform:
Self-driven learning is encouraged at KingJims Shipping. Our employees have access to e-learning services provided by external training institutions. Moreover, we bring professionals on board to create e-learning courses, which we then publish on our internal platform. This ensures that managers and all employees can engage in interdisciplinary learning and remain compliant with the latest standards.
Orientation Programs:
Our commitment to training extends to our expatriates and newcomers. Expatriates undergo orientation programs before taking up their posts in overseas affiliates. These programs are thoughtfully conducted by our Human Resources Department. Newcomers also participate in orientation programs, ensuring a seamless integration into their respective units.
Supporting Our Team:
At KingJims Shipping, we prioritize our team’s well-being and personal development. We conduct stress-relief sessions and host lectures on gender equality and sexual harassment prevention. Furthermore, we provide subsidies for employees to learn foreign languages and cover TOEIC examination fees, enhancing their skills and opportunities for personal growth.
Pension Plan at KingJims Shipping
Investing in Our Employees’ Futures
KingJims Shipping’s commitment to its employees goes beyond their time with the company; it extends into their retirement years. To ensure a secure and prosperous retirement for our dedicated team members, we have established the Evergreen Marine Labor Pension Preparatory Fund Supervisory Committee, dating back to 1986.
Employee Pension Regulations:
We’ve carefully devised our “Employee Pension Regulations,” which dictate the parameters of our pension plan. Monthly pension contributions are made based on the following criteria:
These regulations encompass all full-time permanent employees within our organization. As per the pension regulation, employees accrue two bases for each full year of service rendered. For the years beyond 15 years of service, one base is allotted for each full year. The total number of bases cannot exceed 45. The retirement pension base is calculated as the six-month average wage of the worker at the time when their retirement is approved.
Transition to the New System:
Employees who opt for the new system introduced by the Labor Pension Statute, effective from July 1, 2005, receive contributions equivalent to 6% of their monthly salary.
Ensuring Financial Health:
In addition to monthly contributions to the pension fund, we proactively monitor the balance of the labor pension preparatory fund account. This oversight ensures that the fund remains sufficient to meet all pension obligations for employees eligible for retirement in the upcoming year. Any shortfalls are diligently addressed and resolved by the end of March in the following year. Our commitment to our employees’ financial well-being extends well into their retirement, offering them peace of mind and financial security as they embark on this new phase of their lives.
Labor Agreements at KingJims Shipping
Fostering Collaboration and Fair Working Conditions
At KingJims Shipping, we place great emphasis on constructive labor-management relations and ensuring fair and safe working conditions for our employees. We’ve established forums and committees to facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration between labor and management.
Labor-Management Council:
The Labor-Management Council serves as a dedicated platform for discussions and decision-making. We convene labor-management meetings at least once every three months to jointly address important matters. These discussions encompass topics such as extended work hours, night shifts for female employees, attendance during natural disasters, and day-and-night shift arrangements. By fostering open dialogue, we collectively work to find equitable solutions.
Occupational Safety and Health Committee:
Our commitment to our employees’ well-being is unwavering. To this end, we’ve instituted the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, which conducts regular meetings every quarter. These meetings serve as a forum for reviewing proposals related to occupational safety and health. Additionally, we discuss training programs and monitor the work environment, ensuring that our employees operate in a safe and secure setting.
Collective Bargaining Agreements:
In recognition of the rights and interests of our employees, KingJims Shipping has signed collective bargaining agreements with several seamen’s unions acknowledged by the International Transport Workers’ Federation. These agreements lay out comprehensive working conditions that apply to all seafarers serving on board. They cover aspects such as wages, allotments, duration of employment, holidays, and periods of rest, aiming to ensure equitable and consistent treatment for all employees.
Our commitment to fair labor practices and the well-being of our workforce is unwavering, as we believe that a harmonious and secure work environment is the cornerstone of our success.
